Vincent Van Gogh

During his life, he should lean on younger brother, Theo, financially. He always should worry about expenses with oil colors for his painting and cost of bread for his daily life. He usually painted self-portraits and landscapes because he didn’t have enough money to hire model for his painting. Even though he had strong passion for painting and he had desire for fame, he always felt inferiority and guilty about financial aid to Theo. I think this poor life and lack of self-confidence of economic problem made him disappoint and be seized with defeatism. Finally, he hospitalized in a mental sanatorium because of his mental disorder after accident that cut his left ear. One thing that the most irony was in his art work is that he painted the most valuable art work during his terrible life time. I think his insane life might be his motive power to create masterpieces in limited his own life time.

“The life of David Gail”

“The life of David Gail” tells the story of a famous abolitionist of death penalty who finds himself on Death Row in Texas, charged with murderer of a woman, his old friend who has leukemia, who also opposes to capital punishment. However, this story become clear that David Gail frames this plot to explain repugnance of execution in the last scene of this movie. This movie shows that capital punishment has important defect of the irrevocability of the penalty in misjudgment case. General proposition that “Every swan is white” become clear by appearance of “black swan”. Namely, if an example of disproof that innocents could be sacrificed through execution appears, justification and continuation of death penalty also couldn’t be maintained. So, He wants to suggest perfect example of disproof to break execution through his and his friend’s sacrifice.

Robert Moses's policy...

Do you know how many slums were cleared by 1960?
413 acres !!! Moses got rid of 413 acres of slums in New York by 1960. I know he created a lot of infrastructure in U.S, However, I think we have to see both side of coin to explain about some one's achievements. He thought slums as a spreading cancer and clearance and super block urbanism were the only effective solution to remove slums in New York. I don't want to blame him and mention about right and wrong matters. However, we have to point out side effect with slum clearance. Moses shaped his project to advance his main three goals. first he wanted to recapture the middle class in New York city because most of the middle class had left New York at that time, second he tried to enhance the city's brain power by supporting university. last, he wanted to promote New York's preeminence. Even though Robert Moses had good motive to achieve his three goals as I mentioned above, slum clearance uprooted thousands of poor people and reduced supply of low-income housing because the new housing was much more expensive than site tenants could afford and the supply of low-cost housing did not meet the rising demand. No more than 15% of those had to displace from renewal areas to public housing. Moses said " No one has yet suggested a way to clear slums without dislocating people" However, I think his planning and clearance were just policy to promote rapid growth rather than humanity. he had to suggest some idea to support poor people because No one could get rid of slum in the world perfectly.

Providing protection for human rights with felons

Nowadays crimes have been growing up every year and more and more cruel. So, capital punishment is very controversial social issue in the world.
Someone say why government should pay a lot of money for cruel criminals and we don’t need to provide protection for human rights to them. On the other hand, imprisonment for life is good chance to atone for their sin. I believe that all of criminals should serve their term of imprisonment without a change. However, I couldn’t believe human being have the ability to judge human life. Even though state power judge felons through constitutional law, I think human being don’t have any authority to deprive a person of invaluable human life that God give us.

A Wild Sheep Chase?

Haruki used polar opposites like nonconformist and conformist in his book.
Haruki’s main character Boku is ordinary person and he resembles us in modern life. He is lazy, weak, and hopeless passive person in modern point of view. He works for the intellectual and easy job for his living. He doesn’t have typical ideal and the ultimate object in his life and he just drinks beers with friends and have a sex with strange women. Reader feels like outsider to Boku. Namely, he is nonconformist. Nonconformist denies social system and struggle to find his way and direction in society continuously. However, boss and secretary are extremely perfect and follow the fame and wealth that is goal for everyone in the world. And also his partner, alcohol addicted person, satisfies with his life and he give him advise to live ordinary life. I think Haruki want to show readers troubles directly through conversation between Boku and his partner in this book. These characters represent conformist in “a wild sheep chase.” This conformist adjusts himself to real life and this value system in society. I think Haruki uses this polar opposite as device to watch the world through sardonic and contemplating point of view. And also Haruki maybe want to make a fun of value system, wealth, position, and fame, that every one trust and follow in the modern life and want to suggest more important thing; concern and tenderness among people, calmness that most people fail to notice in the real life through polar opposites.

The Garden of Eden and Global Warming.

After industrial revolution, temperature is going up every year through global warming during 200 years. Some scientists have anticipated that global warming would cause serious disasters such as raising surface of the sea, increase of rainfall, and generation of serious hurricanes. Sometimes, these could make serious changes of ecosystem in nature. Are you sure that “The Day after Tomorrow” would not occur through global warming in real life?
omeone said global warming is kinds of natural cycle of environment. But everything has a cause and effect relationship inreal life. So, another people said global warming is man-made catastrophe and global warming was started from industrial revolution and developed nations responsible to global warming. But human races couldn’t contradict even benefits and advances from industrial revolution. I am not sure what is correct or not. However, it much is certain that it is time to concern about delicate balance of nature and environmental concern even not getting back to the Garden of Eden.

Modigliani

Even though the way of living was little bit different, Modigliani and Picasso lived Bohemian life. For example, Picasso was addicted with women and Modigliani was addicted with drink and drug. And also that their early stages of painting incorporate gloomy and blue is similar one. I think this mood originated from their poverty and tough life of early stages of painting. While Modigliani exaggerated shape of face, neck and face expression of portrait with sharp image and we can figure out his subject because his art works resembled with his subject, Picasso depict women portrait with exaggerated plumping and sometimes viewer can’t figure out his subject because Picasso analyzed his subject too much and spread out these forms on the plat canvas like puzzle. Even though Picasso expressed perfection from his art works, Modigliani showed us feeling of incompletion because he didn’t draw eyeballs in his portraits sometimes.
