A Wild Sheep Chase?

Haruki used polar opposites like nonconformist and conformist in his book.
Haruki’s main character Boku is ordinary person and he resembles us in modern life. He is lazy, weak, and hopeless passive person in modern point of view. He works for the intellectual and easy job for his living. He doesn’t have typical ideal and the ultimate object in his life and he just drinks beers with friends and have a sex with strange women. Reader feels like outsider to Boku. Namely, he is nonconformist. Nonconformist denies social system and struggle to find his way and direction in society continuously. However, boss and secretary are extremely perfect and follow the fame and wealth that is goal for everyone in the world. And also his partner, alcohol addicted person, satisfies with his life and he give him advise to live ordinary life. I think Haruki want to show readers troubles directly through conversation between Boku and his partner in this book. These characters represent conformist in “a wild sheep chase.” This conformist adjusts himself to real life and this value system in society. I think Haruki uses this polar opposite as device to watch the world through sardonic and contemplating point of view. And also Haruki maybe want to make a fun of value system, wealth, position, and fame, that every one trust and follow in the modern life and want to suggest more important thing; concern and tenderness among people, calmness that most people fail to notice in the real life through polar opposites.
